In the Doctors' Common Room on the third floor of St Andrew's Hospital, Dr Mortimore is getting ready to give the speech of his life. He's delivering the Ponsonby Lecture at an international conference. It's the pinnacle of his career. A dream realised. He might even get a knighthood.

Only problem is, Mortimore hasn't banked on certain guests showing up unannounced . Guests like his old flame Nurse Tate. And Leslie, the son who might just be his. And did we mention Mrs Mortimore is here?

Today is rapidly going downhill for the good doctor. Can he deliver the speech? Can he keep his career and his marriage intact? And what does the hospital Christmas panto have to do with anything?
