Fish filleting foursome Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda need a change of fortune. Luckily for them, this is the year Royal Ascot comes to York, and a day at the races might be just the thing. So it's out with the fish and on with the fascinators: these girls are of to Ladies' Day.
But will today prove to be more than just a jolly outing? Somewhere between the starting blocks and the photo finish, the girls find romance and heartbreak, fame and fortune, and maybe, just maybe, a chance for a better life. Wil they get pipped at the post? Time to place your bets.
